5 Simple Ways to Increase Your Kids

Self-Confidence for Busy Parents

Hello Friend!

If you're looking to help your child tap into their full potential by building their self-esteem and confidence, you've come to the right place!

We can use positive affirmations and a few simple activities to build our kids into the Super Hero's we know they can become. The best part is that you can start doing these now, today, and even in the car.

That's right, there's no excuse now that we don't have the time to build up our children and instead can grow personally. Here we're going to walk through a few fun, engaging, and silly ways to pass the time in the car and begin planting seeds of encouragement and positive self-talk with our kids.

Remember, safety always comes first while driving! These activities should be done in a way that doesn't distract the driver and can be adapted to suit your specific circumstances. Enjoy the quality time and watch your child's self-confidence blossom as you engage in these fun and interactive car ride activities together!

Tip #1 - Sing-Along Sessions

Have fun singing along to their favorite songs or nursery rhymes. Encourage your child to take the lead and sing a solo verse, showcasing their vocal talents. Praise them for the more they remember each time you sing together.

Both of my kiddos love this one and every time they get a bit more familiar with the verses, melody, and words to the song (a great way to support memorization). And don't get too upset when it gets be more silly than the real lyrics, "pizza on daddy's head" which started as twinkle twinkle could be a great new song.

Tip #2 - Memory Games

Play a memory game by taking turns recalling and adding to a list of items or objects seen during the car ride. Celebrate your child's memory skills and their ability to pay attention to details.

FAVORITE GAME: "I'm going to the store to buy ...."

How to play:

  • Pick a category like a summer vacation, picnic, school, shopping, market, etc.

  • Ask your kid to say the first line, for example, "I'm going to the store to buy an apple".

  • The next player, you or another kiddo, would repeat the sentence and add another item to buy. “I'm going to the store to buy an apple and an orange”

  • The game proceeds with everyone repeating the previous list and adding a new item to the list.

  • When a player forgets the items on the list, they are out of the game.

Tip #3 - "I Spy" Confidence

Play a modified version of "I Spy" where instead of finding objects, you take turns spotting positive traits or actions in each other. Encourage your child to recognize their own strengths and achievements. This is also great for understanding and acknowledging different emotions. :)

Today, where have you seen,

  • Joy

  • Confidence

  • Respect

  • Strength

  • etxc.

Tip #4 - Road Trip Goals

Set small goals or challenges for the car ride, such as counting specific vehicles or spotting unique landmarks. This is great for long car rides and looking for state license plates or trying to spot specific color cars that are less common like yellow or green.

Then celebrate their accomplishments and perseverance throughout the journey. This can be through verbal praise or stopping for ice cream once they've seen 20 yellow cars.

Tip #5 - Positive Affirmations

Take turns sharing positive affirmations or compliments with each other. Encourage your child to express their strengths and celebrate their uniqueness. This can be repeating that day's affirmation in Happy Kids Win book or by asking open-ended questions on how your child feels at that particular moment.

As you embark on your next car ride adventure, to the store, school, or across the country remember that every moment presents an opportunity to bond with your child and build their self-confidence.

Whether it's through positive affirmations, games, or songs, you have the power to shape their emotional development. So, I challenge you, superhero parents, to choose at least one of these ideas and put it into action. Take the challenge, make a difference, and watch your child's self-confidence soar to extraordinary heights!
